Kidquake 2010 Dates: October 5-7
Our Kidquake festival-within-a-festival was launched in 2004 as organizers decided we needed more of a children’s component to the schedule. The first one featured an assembly of 45 children and four authors in the Children’s Center of San Francisco’s Main Library, and it was wildly successful. Since then it has grown to three full days, at least ten authors per Kidquake, and hundreds of kids each year. Participating Kidquake partners have included the Children’s Book Project, Word for Word, Center for the Book, 826 Valencia, California Poets in the Schools, First Book, Tricycle Press, and Chronicle Books.
In addition to author readings, Kidquake producers have also produced workshops on how books are made, as well as workshops on writing, reading and even acting!
For the sixth year straight Kidquake has been packed with 1,000 wiggling, joyful kids from San Francisco’s public schools, most of whom got their first glimpse of a real-live author. In fact, for some of the very young students, Kidquake provided nothing short of a revelation: books come from people!
