Franz Kafka died in obscurity in 1924, having published only a handful of bizarre stories in little-known literary magazines. Yet his imagery, including the iconic giant cockroach, appears frequently in pop culture. Even those who have never read a word of Kafka describe their tribulations with the Department of Motor Vehicles as “Kafkaesque.” How did this happen? Join Terry Bisson, Rucky Rucker, and Carter Scholz—all contributors to the new Kafkaesque anthology of dystopic, comedic, and ironic fiction inspired by Franz Kafka—as they shed light upon the dark corners of Kafka’s imagination.
